On the one hand, I think they're really cool. But on the other, I worry about them transmitting parasites to my hens. I don't know whether to discourage their visits (if that's even possible)--or not.

???????

edited to get the image codes right.

We have a flock of about 15 that comes through our yard every so often. And they are quite beautiful too. I am just going to deal with whatever they may bring. They have been coming through the yard way before I ever thought of having chickens.

Hey, we have wild turkey, too. My husband and dad go hunting every spring in Louisiana. They are gorgeous birds, especially when the toms try to impress the hens.

We have widl turkeys here too but they dont come up to the house...they stay out in the pasture and keep it cleaned up for the cattle...sometimes they are over in the corn/soybean fields and havent cause any problems here that I know of...the closest they have been is maybe 50 yards from the house but so far not in the yard. They have been here before I got chickens also so I dont mess with them...I think they are pretty in a weird sort of way.

Wow.. They are beautiful, Lucky you to get to have such pretty visitors. We had two havalina come through are yard about a month ago,We get a lot of coyote and hawks too. Wish my visitors were pretty birds instead of hungry mammals LOL. Or hunting hawks. It has helped in the building of the coop and run though. It has to be as secure as fort Knox LOL

I know what you mean about the wild hog problem...we have it here and they sure have tore up my back pasture too...and theses were hogs that a man turned loose and they have populated really bad to where the USDA guy came to hunt them to try to fix it but some of the people here wouldnt let him on their property...what a crock, I dont want to try to hunt them as have you ever had a mad hog after you? I dont go out back without a gun just because of this...Turkeys are better and safer in my book.

Someone plowed about 15 acres of desert behind my house, Kinda concerned about what they plan to do with it. Anyway ever since we have had snakes, coyote, Havoline, hawks and even a few bobcats running around a little scary. I have 5 kids not to metion all the little critters.

A hog chased my dad to his back door

I missed that one, but they trapped like 21 in their back yard and they live in a retired resort area. He never did get any sausage from that..
