Our tiny new backyard coop in Antioch

I live in Antioch also.. We're new ti the city..I am having a hard time finding laws and logistics.. Could you inform me on what you know about the legality of the chickens??

Yes, Becky, the municipal code is available at http://www.amlegal.com/antioch_ca/. Choose "Frames" for a desktop computer or "No Frames" for your mobile device. Then do a "quick search" for your term: chickens. (C)It shall be unlawful for any person to keep or maintain more than 10 each of ducks, geese, chickens, or other fowl; however, the total number of fowl or animals specified in divisions (A), (B), and (D) of this section may not exceed 15. Fowl shall be kept in enclosures located a minimum of 20 feet from any dwelling, church, or school. Such enclosures shall be maintained in a clean manner. Such ducks, geese, chickens, or fowl shall not be permitted to create a public nuisance, as defined in this chapter or in Cal. Civ. Code § 3480.

P.S. My name is Jacquelyn, and I work at the local library. Come in and introduce yourself. We have a ton of resources to supplement those here on BYC.

Thanks for the info!! I was just thinking about getting some books on it late last night!! I am at the library often! Mostly prewett library. Is that the one you work at? Is it possiable for you to hold some good books for me on chickens? I have a few books i need to return this week and could check out what you think is a good read.

All the libraries are closed today, but you can place holds online for p/u in a few days. The two I liked were the Chicken Encyclopedia and the Chicken Whisperer's Guide. This site has some good recommendations for books in the Managing Your Flock Forum.

Happy Easter! I think our coop is finished with the addition of an awning over the coop.

Meet Rose & Amy, our new gals. One year old, settled in nicely, and gave us eggs on their first day in their new digs.

Nice! Do those two chickens actually fit inside the coop? Would like to see a pic of them in the run attached to the coop.

Cool....looks like a tight fit, hope they like being cozy!! You say they've already layed eggs for you....is there a nest box in the coop?

Yep, they seem very happy. They don't stay in the run within the coop except at night. The girls love digging in their dirt patch and scratching in the grass area during the day.

Here they are eating scratch from my son's hand.
