Out of dog food. What would you do?

my dogs have ALL skipped meals in such situations. Not worth the stomach upset . I give em each a cookie or two and call it dinner. I also take this opportunity to deworm them

Fasting for 24hrs will not hurt them unless they have a health issue requiring them to eat at a certain time each day.

1 chicken quarter per dog will work for one single meal. 1 turkey neck also is a single meal.

1 cup cooked rice, half a can of mackeral/salmon and a whole raw egg including shell.

I do not cook for my animals unless it is rice. Dogs in the wild do not have their food cooked for them. Rice is only used as a filler. Which I don't like either.

But in your case I would just fast them until tomorrow when you go get their kibble.

Boiled rice, cooked eggs, add the one can of dog food. This is probably the least upsetting to their digestive systems. Feed smaller portions than usual and hope you can get to the store tomorrow. I always try to keep 2-4 bags of feed on hand just for such weather emergencies. Must admit there have been times when I too have run out of feed.

My dog gets eggs and oatmeal cooked together every day for a large part of his diet. I sometimes mix in a little fat or left over meat or whatever I've got.

For just a day or two I'd cook up a large pot of rice, mix in whatever you've got for flavor such as that can of Mighty Dog and feed it. They're not going to become malnourished in so short a time.

I ran out of dog food on Tuesday and just used cat food for their dinner, just enough that they knew they had something. I also gave them some chicken and veggies. They were very happy thinking they were getting a HUGE treat!

Cottage cheese or yogurt are good protein choices, if you have any on hand. Pasta is OK as a carb, but if it is spaghetti, make sure you cut it into bite-size lengths. Or you may end up with it all over the carpet. Don't ask me how I know this:) you should be fine quantity-wise. We have a 250 pound dog, and he does fine on about a half pound of rice or pasta, and a cup or so of protein in a pinch.

I think we need to see a picture of your 250 lb dog. In all my years as a vet tech, have never seen one that big. That is HUGE!

Wow! Thanks for so many replies and so many great ideas! I was considering making a big pot of rice and mixing some meat and veggies into it. Since it sounds like that's what many of you do, I'll go that route. I also like the idea of eggs and oatmeal. Sounds like the breakfast of champions. Lol!

I've never heard of using sweet potatoes for dogs. Would regular potatoes work the same, or is there a nutritional difference? My dogs love potatoes, but I don't typically keep sweet potatoes.

And I'd like to submit a second vote for a pic of the 250 lb dog.
