Out of dog food. What would you do?

No problem fasting dogs for 24 - 36 hours they fast in the wild for long periods, also if a dog has stomach problems, best way to end vomiting and diareaha is to cut off their food intake. . . UNLESS they are on meds where they need something in their stomach swo it doesn't get upset AND as long as they are indoors for the most part - without food, dogs have a tough time keeping themselves good and warm. They do need to injest liquids and some low sodium chicken or beef broth will also help keep them drinking water - as the salt in the low salt varieties stimulates their thirst

plus it's good to help warm them up

I have never run out of dog food but when I am hunting I pack some extra Peanut butter sandwiches for the dogs...Lots of carbs and they love them...May not be the most healthy meal but they Love Them...I am not a vet or a vet tech...just saying...

. Let me charge up the digital camera and I'll see if I can get a shot that gives you the full perspective of his enormousness. He's about 34 inches at the top of the shoulder and takes a 32-34 in a collar. He is also as sweet as he is big!

Does seem kinda cruel and not the norm....try and give them a little something at least everyday in that situation. Unless sick to stop vomiting I can see but not the case here. I def. would not sit and eat in front of them knowing they are hungry and had not ate all day or could not eat cause I was out of dog food. JMO

Actually, I do go without eating for 24 hrs, especially if I'm busy working.
Generally my DH and I only eat 1 to 2 meals a day.
None of us need to eat as much as we do.

I keep a freezer bag for meat and veggie scraps for making pet food. When a bag is full it's all simmered, then frozen in baggies in daily portions.

Actually, I do go without eating for 24 hrs, especially if I'm busy working.

I agree. We don't eat that often either. Small meals, more like snacks to some people. My kids and my animals eat more often than I do.

And like I said in my post it wouldn't hurt the dogs, unless they needed it for medical reasons, to skip a meal.
Those that feed a raw diet, some will fast the dog for one day a week. Those that hunt or do competitive sports will fast their dogs for a meal right before going out.
It will not hurt the dogs feelings to miss a meal. You are putting a human emotion to an animal. Yes, I know debatable. But they are not us and we are not them.
People here have merely pointed out over and over that it is OK if the OP misses a meal for her dogs while she waits to get out and buy some dog food. Nobody said for her to starve her dogs or harm them in any way.

My dogs also don't sit and stare at me while I eat, nor do I sit and stare at them while they eat.
