yesterday was a beautiful day so i was outside "playing".i had my chickens ,ducks, and guineas outside free ranging and i heard a strange noise so i go to investigate.this was on top of the barn.
he came down and ate with my girls but wouldn't let me get too close.he looked like he has been looking for someone for awhile.his feathers were ragged and when he "strutted" you can see that his feather veins were broken and stripped.he stayed most of the day but was obviously looking for something else.he could have stayed awhile but he flew almost to the top of our pine tree which is about 80ft.
he is not out here today.nice ,pretty surprise tho. :love
i know all of my close neighbors and they don't have any.
could he have been looking for a mate or really lost?
if he comes back should i try to catch him(??? treats??) or just leave him be?i do not want him but could help him find a better home.

can anyone tell me what variety he was?

you can see his feather veins and how they are broken and stripped.

I'm not sure where you are, but if you look at the UPA breeders directory you'll see that there are a few breeders in Georgia that breed some variety of green peas (which is what appeared in your yard): http://www.peafowl.org/breeders.htm#ga
You might give them a call and let you know what you spotted; they may be looking for that pretty boy!

thanks guys.he was very pretty.
i will check around with some of our neighbor and see and also check out the farmers bulletin.

here are some more pictures i got of him using my camera yesterday.

this is what i saw when i came into the chicken yard-pretty cool!

Looks like a young male, bet he got loose from someones pen.

It must be exciting to have one drop in on ya like that, those kind of peas are known for taking off when free ranged unlike their blue cousins.

Thanks zaz!

yeah, that was a total surprise but a beautiful one.

of all things that Could show up in my chicken yard,he was very welcome.

yeah,he was definately looking around like he was lost.he was flying so high up in the trees and just looking around.you should have heard my chickens and guineas when he flew.

i have not seen him today but he did get to eat something yummy yesterday so maybe that will take him to where ever he was going.

He's a juvenile male Green, aka "Java Green"... Java is a valid subspecies of Green peafowl just that sometimes the whole lot of them are lumped up as "Java Green" as Java is considered the most beautiful by many and most commonly sold.

1: if you do contact people about this bird, ask them to describe their lost birds to you. not you to them. many would love a java/green, too easy to say 'yeah thats my bird!'.

2: when I free ranged some of my own javas, discovered they seem to have a habit of walking around an area much much larger than indias do. even when mixed clutches of indias, spaldings and javas were hatched and raised together, eventually the javas and some spaldings would start walking around really far while their india brothers and sisters stayed close to home. doubt this is the case(him being a far ranging freeranger), his damaged tail seems to indicate he may have been a confined bird.

anyways so cool you got to see one walking around freely. it really shows off their beauty and colors to the fullest.

p.s. if you want him to hang around, don't chase him at all! he will sky rocket and be off before you take two steps at this stage. if want to catch him, leave food plainly visible in a pen or coop. and close when he is fully inside.

Hi Dinahmoe
It is a two year old green male try to make a pic from his wing then we see more. Give him good food and some peanuts and when he found a sleep tree he will not go away.

Too cool.! I need a female to wander in here

. I love when any different or exotic birds come to visit your place because of the birds you keep and take care of. Ive had it happen with wild ducks and rare native birds.
