I need to build a new brooder for the chicks and i will have to build one for the ducklings also. They will need to be outside though.

Does anyone have pics of their outside brooders?

thanks

good luck on this one, all i have found on here are tubs and boxes with wire top and heat lamp. Actually i recently posted the same topic in the raising chickens post. i have someone who is going to email me plans, i will pass them on to you and send you a few pics of someother ideas. anytype in particular, like fully enclosed or something that they can adapt to the outside themselves, do you have other shelter such as a barn or shed. Are they protected from predators, with fence or other barriers?

Hmm outside? Hope it is out of the weather. I have my brooder inside, will always be too. However I use a bin cage for them.
Like this, but larger and without the side airways. http://www.bitterepiphany.com/bin_cage.html
Anyway, if you have a hard time keeping the heat in you can actually cover the top with tin foil, duct tape it down and cut a hole just enough for the lamp.
I suggest using a reptile heat lamp (not a light bulb), they give much more heat and they don't keep your chicks up at night.

Other than that Im lost, sorry. Im with b52fizzle on this, outside is pretty risky.

I guess what I'm thinking of is sort of like a raised 'mini' coop, fully enclosed (and insulated walls). I want it to be next to or off of the main coop(s) and will for sure have a good heat source, solid floors & walls too and maybe the roof would lift up for access. I was looking at an old rabbit hutch thinking, man that would be so cool and the house would smell SO much better if they were outside. They're currently in a large aquarium & the new ones go into a small hamster cage(with the plastic bottom & wire top).

I saw a breeder last year that had something like what i want but their set up could have used ALOT of improvements.

Maybe i'll have to wing it, here's my ideas though....

Up & Off the ground
Solid walls & floor
Insulated
Hinged Roof access

I'm thinking if it's insulated it'll get too hot in the summer so i could make a drop down(hidden) vent/window...it'll need ventelation anyway. Too many ideas in my head to make complete sense of them all!

ETA: I have brooded chick in the main coop before, seperated with just a heat light for warmth.
