Well, to make a long story short. I have the state coming to run NPIP and AI tests and I went out to count heads for the lady. I have between 85-95 birds!!!!! I just ordered another 80+ hatching eggs. Now only expecting 40 to hatch, thats almost 150 birds!!!!!! What in the heck is wrong with me, what am I thinking?!

It sounds like you have graduated from the chicken math class.

My BF is going to send me straight to the nut house if he realizes I have that many. Right now a bunch of them are chicks so it is not overwhelming yet. He sees these new eggs and 3 incubators running! He will flip his lid!

I know what you mean. My brother came over to admire my carpentry on my new coop and asked how many birds I have. I started thinking and adding...

12 Buff Orpington chicks plus
12 Rhode Island Red chicks is 24 plus
14 Easter Eggerchicks is 38 plus
4 Silver Laced Wy chicks is 42 plus
2 Black Australorp chicks is 44 plus
2 Barred Rock chicks is 46 and
5 Golden Campines totals 48 chicks then there's the
5 Black Star hens and the
2 Easter Egger roos is 55 and
1 Black Polish roo makes 56. Oh, and then there's the
16 guineas and that makes 72 total!

Thank goodness that i have promised 24 to a friend at work and another 3 or 4 to a neighbor. That will leave me with a mere 44! And to think it all started when I came home from the feed store with 4 tiny keets...

Hello, my name is Lisa, and I'm a poultryholic.

Do you have to have all of your birds tested? We had ours done and only had to have the birds over 4 months old done. It helped cut down the number significantly, since most of our birds are chicks and juvies.

I can't keep track without a spreadsheet. Make one......you will surprise yourself by just how many there are once you write them down. Also makes it easier to organize breeding groups, sales lists, cull lists, etc.

Imagine my surprise when I thought I had about 80 and made a spreadsheet.....and realized I had about 150!

That was last year and I am now at a comfortable 30ish.

Yea, I need to make a spreadsheet. Finish getting everyone ID banded too!

I listed a bunch of just the egg layers online last night to get rid of them. Gonna keep just my EE layers, SQ silkies, sizzles, and I can not get rid of my BF's ducks. He would kill me.

I have 14 acres and as soon as weather breaks I am building more coops. Right now only about 35 of these guys are outside, the rest are little chicks yet. 4 of them are leaving next Monday. Some of my phoenix and phoenis cross are leaving also when they get a little older! That should drastically reduce the numbers. I think I am going to sell the bobwhites also. That would get rid of 15 birds easily.
