Over excited/ impatient due to hatch 28th May

If you can hear something like tapping just leave it alone and it should start to pip very soon
I always get excited when I can hear that noise as I know they are very close to arriving :)
Xx

Not self hatching (I'm not that brave yet) but I have 8 hatching and shipping on the 28th!! Hopefully next year I will have more confidence and experience to hatch my own. Best of luck with yours.

Thanks, best of luck to you too! I checked this morning and it's still just pecking at the inside of the egg but it sounds a lot stronger now so hopefully by the time I get home I'll see some cracking.

When you get home if you don’t see any cracking
I normally hold the egg up to my ear and tap the egg and it normally taps back that’s a good way of knowing it’s healthy and kicking
Just don’t be tempted to crack the egg open your self :)

Where are you from ?

The first time I hatched out chicks, I borrowed a Little Giant incubator from a friend who also gave me some of his barnyard eggs to practice with. My first hatch was around 60%. I gave the hatched chicks to the fellow who lent me the incubator and the eggs. I bought a styrofoam incubator with a turner because I was working at the time and worried about having the time to hand turn the eggs. Eventually after experimenting my hatches got better. I have had a couple of 100% hatches but that is rare, most now are over 85%.

The first time hatching is a bit nerve racking but before you know it you will be looking forward to hatching the next generation. Remember what works best for someone else might not be right for you and vice versa. The incubator, where you have the incubator and your climate will play roles in how your hatches are. Good luck and have fun, experiment...

That great. Just like mail ordering, I have heard stories of incubated hatches going wrong. I have only had to end one chicks life which was the worst feeling in the world. I was actually successful suffocating it with my fingers (long very sad story). I don't know if I have the heart to hatch deformed, etc babies.

It will happen. There are hatches where I have had chicks with problems and they get culled. It is because they can't have a good life without struggling.
This is Gladys. She was 3 years old when a fox recently got her during the middle of the day. She would have been culled but was missed. Apparently she was meant to live until the fox got her. She knew her name and when I called her she would come running to me. She liked to be held. I miss her every day.

She jumped into hubby's lap in his shop so I had to take a picture.

Yeah I feel the same I finally went to bed and when I woke up it wasn't hatched I'm hoping later today I'll see something. I'm kinda starting to worry because I have to go on a flight tomorrow.... Lucky I have someone to watch it (they have chickens so they know what to do).

Wait the chick won't suffocate if it doesn't get out in time right! (Like external pipping)

Chicks CAN suffocate, yes. When they've used up the air in the air bubble, they must peck a tiny hole in the shell to keep breathing. In my experience, it rarely happens to chickens, since their shell isn't very thick. In birds with thick shelled eggs like ducks and geese it's more of a problem.
How's it going, any change?

I live in a climate where the temp fluctuates a bit but I have in under my bed because that area in closed off with a little door to get to it and it has blankets around it besides the top for the vent so there would be no drafts. Also I'm not home yet and I'll check it when I do get home. Would it have pipped or zipped by the time I got home? Which would be in an hour or two so like 3:00 pm and I last heard it pecking at 5:00 am roughly

I just got home and I don't see anything but I still hear it pecking at the egg just a lot weaker, I'm assuming it's taking a break.
