Over-reacting?

You are right that everyone has bad days, but it seems to be a pattern with this guy as he showed up the nest day with a bad attitude.
Perhaps he should lose his job and let someone who will treat people with respect have the job!

I would have canceled my order and made sure the management knew why.

honestly
I think it was a lack of decent communication and understanding. He was probably distracted when he spoke to you on the phone.
The economy is getting everyone stressed out more and more.
I would have had him wait and set it up since he was there.

Oh and for the record. I had severe morning sickness(hospital more than once for dehydration) and not only cleaned a room completely out while pregnant.I painted the ceiling and also helped my dh move a couch and loveseat into my house and moved hte old couch out when I was 8 months pregnant. Didnt hurt the kiddo at all and I was fine as well. I rode my horse while pregnant as well. And my sister has been going to the gym throughout her pregancy and setting up and moving furniture. And hse has been feeling crappy as well.

They had other deliveries after us, lol. They thought that they were supposed to be here at 8AM, but weren't here until a little after 9AM, so they were already "running late".

As far as the pregnancy deal, I understand completely, but when you're sick and have a fever and don't feel like moving, it really isn't fun to have someone treating you like crap then yet too, especially when you're paying them to do something and even tried to work with them to make their life easier. To be honest, if we could have cleared the room in enough time, I would have, but there's no way we could have done it in a timely manner, what with several hampers/baskets of toys, a few toy tubs, and having to actually tear his bed apart to move it out (poor kid was trying to sleep, he started to get sick now too and has been down with a fever as well). (And, yes, I do realise that at some point in time, some of his toys are going to have to "disappear", I just feel heartless even thinking about taking toys from him.

But, yes, if it could have been done, I would have done it, believe me, I want my bed, lol.

You're not over-reacting. Ask for a refund, complain loudly to the manager.

If the economy is so bad, people should be on their best behavior so as to keep their jobs. I know I am.

Tip for the future--the words, "OK, let me just make a note here..." and then reading back to them what you just agreed to, ending with, "did I miss anything?" are real handy. The point of it is not so much that you actually need a written record, but to let the person on the other end of the line know that you HAVE a written record. Suddenly, people get a lot nicer if they think you have a written record of their statements. It's amazing how well that works.

That's what makes it even worse though, the guy made such a huge stink over how I'd better be here on Wednesday, or he would not be happy with me. Then he shows up the next morning?! *Sigh* The funny thing is that the assistant seemed so understanding, it makes me wonder if the boss does stuff like that all of the time.

If it were me, I would have to cancel the order. Because if I didn't, then every time I looked at the bed, I would get irritated about the whole thing. There is no excuse for such poor customer service - I would think especially in this economy that they would want to go out of their way to make people happy.

"OK, let me make sure I've got it all: You will be delivering the bed on Wednesday at (time), and also you are very angry with your work schedule and somehow feel it is my fault that you can't do your job. And your manager's name is Joe and he can be found at (phone number), and the person I contact to cancel the order is Sue, and she can be reached at (other phone number). Is that correct, did I miss anything?"

If it's any consolation, people rarely lose their jobs over anything as reality-based as gross incompetence or rudeness. In retail, it's more usually due to stock prices and WalMart.
