Next time the top starts to get overgrown trim it with nail clippers. How are they housed? The top beak should be a normal length from everyday wear and tear.

Overgrown tips have nothing to do with fertility.

I know, but I wondered if he could grasp the hens feathers, not fertility. Just blocking the mating process. They are housed normal, I have to get them outside more. I have to build a run first.

Well,

I'll let a flock out one at a time but I can't take my eyes off them. To answer your question, on good days no they don't have too wait. We have too many foxes so I need a run and can't stop watching them.

(I found out the hard way with Guinea fowl.)
We have hawks too, not problem and I don't want a YET.

It isn't gonna be too easy of a task (The run building),
So I have to choose good weather. It is crazy weather were I live!

I have been letting them outside every couple of weeks.

I hate foxes do you have dogs?

Yes, I have two! They are Shetland sheepdogs.
Do you have dogs?

You could easily teach them to chase off the foxes,and just taking trips in woods scare foxes off,over time of course.

We had fox problems but then our dogs run out in woods and the more the scent spreads around the more they become threatend. And the dogs have actually ran into foxes,and have chased foxes and saved a few of our chickens lives.

Yeah, I would have my dogs chase them...
But we don't see them often, just signs of the foxes like feathers and holes.

When the fox got two of my Guinea hens,
I chased them of with bullets!
