Oyster Shell Discussion

They still need grit, just not chick sized.
I have two hanging containers, one for the OS and one for granite grit. I will be installing a third for crushed egg shells. They are favored over OS.

Oh I have regular grit too once they get older, I just don't start supplementing with anything but grit until they're like, say, six months or something.

Grower until they start to lay, then pelleted layer with grit and oyster shell in a side feeder. We keep a container by the kitchen sink for egg shells, meat scraps and anything else we think the chickens will eat, I then dump it by the pop door and stomp on the shells to crush them.

Chicks I feed medicated chick feed for a couple weeks. (To give them a healthy start. when I start giving them treats they get chick grit also. (About two weeks or so). Adults and those older chicks get he free choice of oyster shells, layer feed and scratch grains (mix these two). They also get table scraps like bread cereal or what ever else the kids waste some they eat other stuff they don’t touch. (That stuff is dumped out at the edge of the woods, benefits of living in the country. :). )They also free range in the evenings so they get their grit the natural way.
