Packing 40 Eggs in a Small Flat Rate Box PICTURES

I just got my 40 RIR eggs from Gary today and now I can vouch for his packing method.None were cracked or broken and they all came in the small flat rate box.The eggs were so snug I think you could have used the box as a football and still not have any breakage. When it comes to packing 40 eggs in these small boxes, Gary has got it down.

I use a similar method, but put the eggs in a smaller flat rate box with the top trimmed down, tape an air pillow over the top to keep them in place, and sit it in the 11 x 8.5 x 5.5 box. Then I pad the gaps with shredded or scrunched paper, or peanuts.

Something else I learnt; since the flat rate boxes are good for 70lbs, the flat rate price is usually way higher than the actual cost of sending it Priority. If you wrap the box in brown paper, or cover the printing on the box with your own labels, it will often ship for half the price.

I am going to try that, wrapping the box in kraft paper to see. If that is true, then THAT is the best kept secret... well.. not anymore

oh wait... I'm not using flat rate boxes.. just priority mail shoe boxes so It probably doesn't apply then.

Try calculating the cost of shipping on the USPS website using the flat rate box dimensions. Usually boxes of eggs run 1-2lbs, obviously duck eggs and large batches will weigh more. It's usually at least $5 cheaper.

Don't worry about wrapping it in kraft paper- I sell online a lot, and when I ship non-Priority, I pull the box apart at the seam, turn it inside out and re-tape it very, very well. Never had a problem! Cara is right about the flat rate usually being a good bit more.

Great egg packing job, Geared! The only thing I add is a packing slip inside, in case the outer label is damaged.
Where do you get the pink stickers? Are they available to all, or do you make them?

I agree about the flat rate vs regular priority but in this case I bet the flat rate small box is cheapest because the weight of 40 eggs.
