Paint chicks- how will they feather?

Please keep updating as they grow, if you don't mind? I especially like that first chick with the black just before its tail, very cute!
One thing that is confusing me though, isn't the NN gene dominant? If you've got hens and a rooster that are NN, shouldn't you end up with some chicks that are as well? I don't own any, and really don't know much about them, but I am curious...

From what I've read yes, NN is a dominant trait. 2 NN genes gives you complete NN, 1 NN gene gives you NN but with a "bowtie" in the middle.

It's hard to see in the pic but I did get NN from them. I have NN and golden comet hens over a NN rooster. I hatched 23 chicks total. Only 8 were non-NN. The rest NN (though only one without the bowtie)

As for NN question- those chicks are proof the roo is not pure for NN gene. Not pure NN bred with non-NN will give you half n half NN and non NN.. but that ratio shows best in large numbers. Just like how you can get mostly heads or tails in 10 or less coin tosses or how families can have all boys or all girls. Toss coin 100 times or pop out 100 kids, the average will be very close to 50/50.

p.s. you can often guess if a NN bird is pure NN or non NN by the size of the feathered neck patch. If totally absent or very small with only a few feathers- like a bowtie are pure NN... those with many feathers forming a bib or shield are not pure NN. There are some exceptions due to side effects of unrelated genes though, such as pea comb can make the neck patch small and look like it's pure for NN..

Just cause this is a pet peeve of mine.....when you list matings, it's the male over the female. In the animal world, the female's always on bottom
