Painted geese????

Quote:
We did hatch out quite a few that were "painted"...but sadly, we decided to part with our Geese, and sold everyone we had.

I think yours are beautiful! Simply stunning!

Glad that you like them. I think the breeder had gray Toulouse and white Embden to start with these, she have a few trys to get them the way she like it.
I will think just like working with chicken, not all will turn out the way you like, selective breeding, lots of patience and hard work.
The only problem I have is culling, I don't have problem with chicken, but can't do it with geese, they seems so much more intelligent than chicken, at least the awarness level is much higher, just look into their eyes....anybody out there feel the same way?

They mourn their family member when passes. Years back before we got the guardian dog, we have a coon attack, the big Daddy got hurt real bad, we tried everything to make him comfortable, all the geese gather around him making hummming sounds till he passes, it was the sadest day of my life.....

We started with a pair geese long time ago, then they hatch out few gooslings, at the time we didn't have the room for so many, so we rehome them but kept one, it turn out to be a girl, three of them roaming the yard and had a great life, but the young hen's eggs were never fertile, only the mama. I often wonder if the big daddy does know it was his offspring. If they do have a conscience, they are a lot better than some humans.....

I had traded a group of juveniles that my geese raised for some goats about 4 months ago. Just a couple weeks ago somebody stole 3 of the geese right out of the guy's fenced in yard. You know they ended up on somebody's Thnaksgiving table

Anyway - he brought the lone girl back to live with my flock again becuase she stopped eating and grooming and cried for the lost ones all day. The minute he pulled in the drive she knew she was home and ran straight from the crate to the other geese and started eating. They didn't have the adjustment period that you see when you add a new bird- I truely believe they rememebr her.

Ohhh

I just know that they know. I had pair up wrong one time, I put the 2 that I thought was a pair, she was screaming her lungs off, than here come her mate, frantically biting the cage try to free her. I ended up kept them all till we had to move, I told the new owner he can take all or none.
These new paint geese that we got, the first two weeks they keep try to escape, I had the feeling that they are trying to go back home. We started to hand fed them treats, now we let them go where ever they want and nobody jump the 1 1/2 feet fence. They will come to greet us when they see us coming home, most likely looking for treats.
