My feed store did sell Layena for $12.99 a bag but they have probably gone up since he has gone up on his mash.I think it's up to $14 or so while his homemade grain mix is $9.65 per 50lbs.

My girls free range and have the Layena and our yolks are very bright orange and firm and high. But it must be more the free ranging than the Layena, cuz they eat very little of it. I am constantly worried about their nutrition because now that they have so much land to run around on (11 hens, 3 acres), they are eating very little feed. I guess that is okay, because they are all fat and happy, but it makes me concerned some days.

I get paranoid about letting them out for a couple of hours to get green grass and I won't get eggs the next day cause they ate too much grass and not enough feed.

Oh, my production is very good. I get 8-10 eggs a day from 11 hens and one of my hens is much older and doesn't lay consistently (she was a rescue).

Thank you all for you replies I will definately try all your suggestions. Will now try answering your questions....

I have 8 Rhode Island Red X White Leghorn. 7 of them are nearly 2 years old the other 1 still a chick. I am feeding them Barastoc Golden Yolk morning & night. They regulary have a combination of lettuce, cabbage, celery, spinach, cucumbers, corn (fav), all fruits. They love any type of melon & I give them the table scraps the dog or cat won't eat.
I was buying a mixture of different grains which they really loved but the fodder store owner told me that the chickens were unable to absorb all the goodness from whole grains & that pellets were far better.
My chickens graze around the yard all day pecking & scratching the lawn. Will try the dandellion & the mash this week & let you all know how things went.
