Howdy y'all!
I am considering building a bigger coop to accommodate 4 silkies. With that being said, I want to do it as inexpensive as possible. So, I have been racking my brain for an idea. A few days ago I came up with the idea of a pallet chicken coop. There are TONS of free pallets in my area! I was wonder if ANYONE has tried this, and has some dos/don'ts, tips, or could just brainstorm with me! I have some time to build the coop because I can wait for my chicks to grow up a bit:D:jumpy
I have alot of scrap wood from my latest coop, nails, screws, a whole sheet of non-treated plywood, some shingles, plenty of wooden boards, and more! I think I can totally create a cheap coop!
Thanks in advance

Here’s what I did with our kids old swing set, built a coop out of old pallets.

Your welcome, my chickens been in my pallet coop for almost 11 months now, and doing great, I get consistently 5-8 eggs a day with exception in December/January had 2-3 eggs during cold short days.

building coops put of free or almost free stuff is great.

Check out the coop link under my avatar. (if you are looking at BYC on your phone, turn your phone sideways)

My bantam coop and my duck/orchard coop are both made out of scrap. I also made a tractor out of scrap.. but I didn't make a page for that.

Easy to do as long as you can be flexible. .. and make your design match your scrap.

If you don't mind me being nosy how many fit in that swing frame coop?

I got 10 in it right now but will introduced 6 of them to the main coop in a month or so. The swing set/pallet coop is 6.5’ x 6.5’ covered and has an 8’x 6.5’ run and has 3 outside attached nesting boxes.

Nice! Four or five fat faverolles should be just fine. I'm starting with a wood swing frame so that will help a little bit. Scrounge up some wood and I'm good to go. Thanks again, you've saved me so much trouble you wouldn't even believe. :)
