Pallet Coop - The Beginning

The babies are now two weeks old and they are getting so big! It is crunch time now. We have to get this coop together and ready for them to move in.

Oh....my....gosh!!! How ADORABLE is that??? Too cute!

We finished the frame for one of the side walls last night. This wall will have a window. I used an online cad program to plan the layout.

Here is the plan for the other side wall without a window.

The front wall will have one window, a large walk in door, and a small access door for cleaning.

The back wall will have two windows and the pop door into the run.

Inside the coop will have a half wall with a door to separate the storage area from the coop.

Under the door on the half wall is a kick panel to keep bedding in. The nesting boxes will be mounted on the half wall with access from the storage area.

I have not quite figured out the roof yet but at the top of three walls there will also be vent holes.

Walls are finally up! It is much bigger than I imagined but I am very happy with how it is coming along. Still haven't quite figured out the roof.

We have been working very hard trying to get our coop finished. I think we are almost there!

Over the past few days we framed the roof, put plywood down, started siding, built doors and access panels, finished the inside wall and started on windows.

The roof holds me at least :)

Our fuzzy neighbor stopped by to see the progress.

The inside wall that separates the coop from the storage area.

Roll out nesting boxes will be mounted on the bottom panel.

The door for the inside wall still needs to be hung.

Started siding on the side wall.

Siding started on the front.

Front wall nearly finished.

I am so excited and proud of what we have accomplished so far.

Well I think we are almost there. Still need to put the run up and get metal roofing panels. (Ignore our mess lol)

The windows are plexiglass in a wood frame. We cut a groove into the wood for the plexiglass to set into.

To fill in the gaps between siding I mixed wood glue and saw dust. Applied with a putty knife. There is a saw mill down the road and they let us take a trash bag full of saw dust for free. You can see where I filled in on the right side.

Almost finished but there is one stubborn leaky nipple.

I plan on making a feeder from plans found here with a bucket and 90* pvc elbows. I am also going to set up another water system outside in the run.
