NancyDZ- I'll try but I've never actually had a recipe. Pan bread is loose bisquit dough dropped by spoonfuls into a pan with sides touching. Then bake only till very lightly browned. Cocoa gravy (everything is approximate) 1/2 c. cocoa+ 1T. flour--add two c. milk slowly and bring to boil. Stir in 1T. butter and pour over bread.
Sugar coffee sandwiches were a slice of bread folded in half and filled with sugar, then a spoonful or so of brewed coffee was poured over the sugar. I remember my mom giving these as treats when we were two years old. Can't imagine why we were fussy and hyper.lol.

We called it fried biscuits and chocolate gravy. I think I just gained 15 pounds thinking about it. I can eat that until I almost explode. I (can't believe I am admitting this) like to melt extra butter in mine and leave little swirls of it on top. I feel naughty just thinking these thoughts!!!

MamaKate- thank you ! Both of those sound delicious... the sugar coffee sandwiches sound perfect for my nieces when they spend the night and I send them home the next morning!

I didn't think anyone knew what chocolate gravy was. When I was a little girl, my best friend at the time, lived out in the country and I loved spending the weekend at her house. Her momma had 12 kids so it was always a mad house there and we did lots of exciting things. Her mom would make up this stuff she called chocolate gravy and it was sooooo good. I have never heard about it again until now. Such memories

My former MIL made this for her brood of 9 in the woods of MO in the 40s, I'd never heard of chocolate gravy before....but the hubby and his brothers always talked about it..... I will definitely have to try this recipe.
