Panicking! Advice please!!!!

I am haunted by the death at day 28/29. I know a more experienced person would have intervened and saved the day.

I have learned a lot. I appreciate the stories and wisdom shared and hope for more to come. If you have been watching this unfold and have held back your opinion or experience..I would like to hear from you before I do another hatch. I need to prep better for this new climate and gather more wisdom. Thank you all so much

Much deserved rest.

Very good babies ❤️ This is prime snuggle time. I liked to lay hatchlings on my chest and cover them with my hands. Sooo comfy!

Here’s a bit more ‘wisdom’ from my personal experience..
Check the entire egg for pips before assisting. I had a baby who I thought had internally pipped, because I could hear her chirping, but she wasn’t making any more progress. It wasn’t until after I opened the air cell and saw a butt that I realized she was malpositioned, and had actually externally pipped on the wrong end:th

I immediately covered the air cell with plastic wrap to prevent it from drying out.
Ducklings use their feet to push off the egg as they hatch, but the big hole I put in was preventing that, so when it came time for it, I had to hold my hand over the hole. She pushed off my hand and zipped out after an hour! :)

So.. yeah, an unnecessary assist on my part, but it ended up working out, and I learned a lot!

Thank you for sharing your story . Isnt new life amazing and terrifying? They do seem to be doing well. The first born found the water and had her first sip. This last one is moving around and fluffing up. He is still attached to egg by string but it looks empty. I won't disturb him just in case. He is still in the incubator.
You are most welcome and so happy to hear that they are doing so well! What kind of ducklings are they? I pray that they continue to do well for you. This has been quite an adventure and interesting to follow along.

Plastic wrap was a good move. I will remember that too.
