Pansy houseducks problems

Three cheers for Chuck and Buck !!!

I assume they are well behaved boys: They would never eat the ferns from the window sills, won't watch nasty stuff on Pay-TV and they won't topple over the fridge and raid its contents? - So yes i would cave in and let them in early. It is just for a couple of months and the worst thing would be a »sausage with gravy« on the floor.

That's the reason why i wasn't using a heat-lamp for the ducklings this year. My Runners, who grew up under 24x7 light still panik when the light's go out. It takes ~30 seconds before the generator kicks in during an outage, but that's enough to send them over the edge.

We would never get them to leave the pool. The school probably doesn't want duck crap in their filters either. Lol. The boys would love it though!

When they're inside alone, they're always in their pen in the living room, wether it's their night night pen or their big portable pen (which only comes out if we're gone for a long day and we have a friend that comes over and lets them out and puts them away in the evening). I could only imagine what they would get into if we weren't around. I've seen what the accomplish when I am around!

I'd bring them in early, too. Mine are waiting at the gate to come in at night to their room and then if I dont come sit with them for a bit or let them give me kisses, beedee jumps the kiddie gate and comes looking for me -

that's my huge worry for tomorrow - I might possibly be gone all day due to volunteering at grill cheese festival, and I dont have anyone to bring my girls in. I can't decide between leaving them in all day, or letting them out. I dont want to leave them in because I dont have a door to their room anymore and the kiddie gate really doesnt keep them in when they want to know where mama is.

*update - just called my mom she said she'll bring them in for me.

The boys are afraid of the dark. Like toddler status afraid. If they don't come inside when the sun starts to come down, they start pounding their faces on the back foot until they are let in, quacking as if some terrible monster is pulling their feathers out one by one.

Problem #1. Chuck and Buck are pansies

Problem #2. We now have a nightly swim team practice change for Daddy Duck that's an hour away

Problem #3,4,5,6 and beyond.... We leave our house at 4PM and don't return until 830PM. Time change has it getting dark earlier and face banging starts around 6PM. Husband is out of town and unable to let them in.

Do I A. Bring them in at 345 and put them to bed early (they don't do food and water once in bed) or B. Let them bang their faces all night until I get home and force them to "buck up" and get over their fear of the dark? They have no worry of predators where they are in the yard so no worries there. They go out in the morning about 7am.

I know this is totally #firstworldduckproblems but keeping them in their cage for the afternoon/night seems so mean. But leaving their pathetic butts outside is just as cruel (to them). They love being inside and they get endless episodes of Spongebob while we aren't home. Is 4PM-7am too long for them without food and water?

Well, clearly they need a "ducky door" to let themselves in! You could set up a pen for them just inside the door so that they are contained This is a long-used method for puppies... it works brilliantly for them, so it should work for ducks too right?

Safety first and of course all energies towards duck dads swim meet. What will be safer and least worrisome? Although I think taking them would be fun lol
Whenever I leave I lock my girls up. I feel bad and they make a huge mess for me to clean up.. But it's nice to know that while I'm gone they are safe. It's so funny... I cant believe how many of these creatures control our lives
