Parents who have full access to their kid's Facebook account?

if you are under 13 in the US (and any site hosted in the US falls under this) they need parents permssion to join. Or they may not be allowed to join at all. it just depends.

So true. None of the forums/facebook require to see a valid Birth Certificate. I have clicked "yes" to the age requirements on many sites (just as easy as it is to click yes for an 11 year old) and it never required proof etc.. If there is an age requirement, there is a reason for it. I do get an e-mail for permission for Club Penguin/ Bella Sara etc. Everything goes under my e-mail account, so I see what passes through.

Heheh yes but if some admins find out they would ban the child ( to protect the child and them selfs...) Anyways i know kids that would do sutch things these days. I don't get it but then again i am not a tipcial teen

Facebook admin do nothing to protect anyone. You can complain all you like about under age users but they won't be removed.

Ducky, your case MIGHT be different in our house. Your computer privacy isn't to play on the computer, but to do actual work that is for pay or would be for pay.

My DS had various things on his computer for his area he wants to go into. Yeah, I'm not touching that with a ten foot pole. He's proven he is trustworthy, I could walk by and ask and be shown ANYTHING on the screen or easily got on the screen, and you could tell he was working on various math formulas and blah de blah de blah that I have NO clue on whatsoever.

As you are paying for it its your choice, my 11 year old has a phone and she pays for it herself, I wouldn't dream of searching through it unless I suspected she was in trouble and even then I would ask first. I do not have access to her Facebook but know she would give me the password if asked.
There are funny people on the internet, but also there are worse ones in real life. You can't shield them from everyone. I trust my children and we have discussed what can happen if she gives out personal info. It's also a lot about teachmg your children common sense.

I didn't allow my DD to get a FB account until she hit high school-on the condition we have all passwords! She is in 11th grade now and I still have acess to her account-she throws a fit from time to time but she knows why I stick to my guns. My youngest has been asking for two years for an account (6th grade) I have said no 100's of times. last week she snuck an account on and was nabbed within 4 hours. I was at work and my SIL called to tell me-I posted right on her facebook page that she was grounded for disobeying and being sneaky and told all her friends to stop talking to her on FB -call if they want to talk! She was grounded all week doing the worst chores I could think of! We now have complete lockdown of computer when we aren't home... I do trust her about 75% but she is at the easily persuadable age! No more trust at this point

I'm 22 and over the years I've had to share most of my passwords and usernames with my parents. Not because they wanted to monitor me, but for other various reasons, like retrieving an email I couldn't forward them, or setting up college stuff. I've never had a problem sharing my information with them. I trust them enough that they would tell me before they went snooping (if they have a problem with something, they come to me first BEFORE snooping) and honestly, I have nothing to hide from them.

Plus, I, being the somewhat mature and reasonable adult, get a Smartphone. DH gets the Smartphone - well, he has two actually, one for work, one for home. My kids who have earned the right to have a cell phone get the world's most boring plan and phone EVER. They can make calls. They can play two preloaded games.

There is no internet on their phones. There is no texting on their phones. There is no camera on their phones.

You want to use the internet, there is a computer right there in the family room. You want to talk to your friend, call them.

I also have the horribly unfair rule that bedroom doors are NOT shut unless you are changing clothes or sleeping. You break that rule, you lose the door.

I'm this mean when the kids are being well mannered and trustworthy. You do not want to see how mean I can be when they've thrown that trust away, then stomped on it. You want a social life? Have fun being social with the chickens.
