If the tame bird is under 4 about 6 months of age, it usually goes the other way and they copy the older birds and become wild so they should be kept apart until that age at least to cement the bond with people. Now, if the tame bird is already adult, and past the juvenile molt, they don't usually forget their trusting nature and can help tame other budgies.

I put up two nest boxes on my budgie flock cage today. I have one bonded pair I really want some chicks from, both are recessive pieds so she is white with black and blue spots and he is yellow with green and black spots. They will have some gorgeous babies if they mate. My second female isn't bonded to any male, but it's better she have a box if she wants one anyway so she doesn't disrupt the other pair.

Makes sense, thank you!

Good luck with the bonding. Do you put anything inside the nest boxes?

So I think I’ll be bringing home a male budgie this weekend. She says they are hand tame, so I wonder if that would help with my current trio.

Luna is helping with Cricket, I think. He was sort of hand tamed before, so he's not totally wild, but watching me with Luna seems to be bringing him around to the idea that I am not going to eat him, lol. So hopefully a hand tamed budgie would help with yours, too.

It will be a while yet. Nobody's too interested in the nests yet. They are really loving this new hamster wheel I got them though. They spin round in circles and at least one has been on it all day today.

Never thought of a hamster wheel! That’s awesome. Love your setup.

Saw this for sale on CL, but I think I can build it cheaper than they wanted, so that’s on my project list before I introduce my new fella to the trio.

The existing ones are Button (female), Thimble, and Bobbin. So I guess this new fella is going to be Zipper for now, unless I find something else I like better. :D

He’s not totally hand tame. She said he bit her when she brought him to me, but he will sit on her son’s hand for hours. He got loose when I tried to get him out, but eventually stepped up on my hand to be put in the cage. So I’ll work with him.

He's very pretty with the seafoam blue and then the cream color in place of the typical white!

I let out 19/21 of my birds all at once today in a room for the first time. Only the quails aren't out. Everyone is getting along. Dont ask me how ill round them up back into their 5 respective cages tonight though...

I know right!? I keep thinking why did I never think of that
All my budgies always liked spinning around on their perches. That wheel looks like hours of entertainment for them.:p

I love the aviary. .but I wonder how hard it will be to clean that wood? Think it could be varnished or something to help with cleaning purposes?
