Although it states in the standard that the head is supposed to be a rich red, I would like to point out something in this thread.
Every show I have ever shown Partridge Silkies, I have taken both dark crested and red crested Partridge, always at least two, one of each color.
I have yet to have the proper color Partridge place higher. It is always the Partridge with the dark crest that places highest. I have always
wondered about this and really have never understood why this always holds true. Both birds were equal in type as well as defect free. I am guessing it is more of a judges preference over anything else. Come to think of it, I don't recall every seeing a Partridge female silkie that fits the description in the standard exactly. Anyone have this same experience at the shows and wonder why this is?
Example:
This is the color of the crest of my Partridge that always place over my red crested ones. Photo was lightened, I have a cheap camera that takes too dark of photos in the show halls.
