Sorry Mrheinz77... I know the feeling. I lost my little Bing on the 19th to a possum. She was always a loner of the group since Id had to bring her back from wry neck when she was young and then immediately once she was better my outside guys had a bought with pnuemonia which kept her inside for a month. She was pretty attached to me and out of all of my other chickens she was the one taken from me

I find this amazing that all these folks bring or raise chicks in the house! You must've been like me as a kid; "when I grow up, I'll have whatever I want in MY house!"

Right now I have 13 breeders in my basement. The temps are perfect for them and they get constant care so their cages are all sparkling clean and the place is completely bug free due to some very stringent cleaning rules and bug watches. The birds are handled every day and inspected. I'm getting about 1/2 doz. eggs a day from 1/2 doz. pullets and hens. They will stay in the basement until spring when I stop breeding.

This all works out best for me because I am handicapped and getting out to the barn can get quite difficult, and with my husband gone I have nobody to help me. I only have to carry water in small 1 gallon jugs and I can carry down enough feed from my porch to last a week. I love breeding season. I love to play with them all of the time and fuss over them.

I'm so glad you are able to keep your silkie friends close where they can bring you comfort and cheer. You have such fabulous partridge and we are all so greatful that you started this thread. Looking forward to the pictures you will be posting of your babies.

Hey guys! I've got a question.
Thiss little guy looks to be a Partridge, but as a chick, he was all grey/black but with yellowish 'eyeshadow' above his eyes. Partridge or not?
