Right now I have 13 breeders in my basement. The temps are perfect for them and they get constant care so their cages are all sparkling clean and the place is completely bug free due to some very stringent cleaning rules and bug watches. The birds are handled every day and inspected. I'm getting about 1/2 doz. eggs a day from 1/2 doz. pullets and hens. They will stay in the basement until spring when I stop breeding.
This all works out best for me because I am handicapped and getting out to the barn can get quite difficult, and with my husband gone I have nobody to help me. I only have to carry water in small 1 gallon jugs and I can carry down enough feed from my porch to last a week. I love breeding season. I love to play with them all of the time and fuss over them.
