This is an example of a lavender with (diluted) leakage of red-pigment next to a non-leaking lavender

remarke also the lighter chest because of lack of black-pigment there (when there is no black it can also not be diluted ;-)

I think it's time to move on about the lavenders. For one thing, this is a partridge thread.
I know that most of us know about the leakage. Especially the black and the partridge. Actually, I call them rednecks. Rednecks are beautiful and have their place in the breeding of partridge. But enough is enough. 95% of us on this thread are everyday people that don't know the genetics and you are just going to confuse us even more. Please remember this. We just enjoy the beauty of these beautiful of these birds and come to this thread to show off their babies and enjoy themselves.

ok, ciao.

Pennie,

Thanks for bringing up the "Rednecks". Would they be useful for putting more color back into the pullet offspring? I have some Partridge and a couple of Blue Partridge pullets. To me, the Blues look very muted/faded in color. If I placed the Redneck boy with these girls, will the chicks be a deeper Partridge color?

Oh boy... About the blue partridge I am not sure. I use the rednecks to bring a deeper richer color into the regular partridge, to be quite honest I'm not sure what they would do to a blue partridge. That may bring too much into the mix. I would probably try and just breed to a nice partridge. See how that works. Now that depends too on where the blue partridge came from. Did they come from a lav.mix? Beth, you know anything about the blue partridge? I am just starting to work with them and I am using partridge over blues. I know that a lot of people use lavs instead.

It's hard to say. I personally started with blue partridges to begin with. When I find that they are looking more like leakage than parti's I use a light marked Dark Partridge. If they are getting to much partridge look I add in a dark blue to the mix. It's a new project for me too so its hard for me to give a whole lot of advice on. I've only been working with the Blue Parti's for 3 years. And when things are in early stages I hate to give advice when I myself and just playing chicken color breeding etc...

I think alot of it is going to be trial and error. Sorry if this was not helpful

You know who would be a great person to ask is April Brody's Broodello. She breeds them and has been for awhile. I would say Debbi send her a PM or Email with your question and she will give you advice. She breeds very very nice partridges and can make just about any color if you give her the right tools to do so.
