Partridge Silkies - Nothing else

Thank you Pennie and Beth! When I went out to look at him, the Redneck, this morning, I am now torn in my thinking. He may very well be a dark blue instead of black, and his hackles are more of a gold color than a red. I guess when I get the breeding pens set up, I will just switch the roos around and see what pops up. I do have a nice Partridge boy that I will use over the pullets first. Experiments are part of the chicken fun any way, right??

Just so you aren't totally confused (like me) what we call rednecks are actually gold leakage.... Make sense? Of course not. I kinda came up with that name hence my screen name. That just means that he carries the gold gene and not the silver gene. And that's about all I know of genetics.... Very 101. Special bus, short bus, whatever you want to call it.

But the important thing is that I breed some very nice partridge Silkies.

Before you get totally off the suject of blue, I thought you might be interested in this situation. I purchased a parti chick last week from a breeder here in CA. She raises blue/splash. About one in a hundred chicks hatch out chipmonk and look like this girl. She hasn't bred any of them yet. I'll post photos of the chick later this AM.

LOVE the pictures!!!! I wish it was nice enough to put mine outside... I plan on moving south to may Georgia. I have some friends down there and the weather is far more conducive tp SIlkies. I can't handle this winter stuff all by myself.

Hope you find a really great home, Pennie!

I'm not sure where the blue/splash comes in but that just a very very dark partridge. I had one almost just like her - a friend has her now.... Interesting case scenario for all of us genetic flops. Ask April, she'll know...
