Partridge Silkies - Nothing else

Well sad news today, the oldest Partridge chick got out of the box early this morning and went down the ramp and got under the coop and got too cold and died.

I checked them last night and she had 2, checked this morning and could only find one. After searching the coop and run I looked under the coop and there was the poor cold chick. I tried the warming it up trick but it is gone. We had frost this morning so below freezing, and I have no clue how long it had been out there.

Quote: Thank you, it is important to use the right terms to avoid confusion. I knew the Partridges do not carry barring - but I didn't know the barring went perpendicular to the wing feathers. The pattern I see is more like one side is completely black and the other side is brown, with a few black lines, I thought they were perpendicular on the brown marking and not parallel to the length. I guess I will have to go take a better look at those molted wing feathers laying all over the place.

On the juvenile feathering what pattern should you look for to get good pattern on the adults? Specifically for the Partridge Silkies... Thanks.

https://www.backyardchickens.com/t/...s-charts-and-lots-of-reading-updated-nov-13th near the top--several images down show different featehr patterns. I know I've seen one that shows the penciling on primaries, but I will have to keep looking, I can't tell good patterning on juvies; have to wait until they mature.

So sorry, hon! This is not a good time of year for little babies to be born even in California and Texas. We are supposed to be in the 40's by tomorrow evening yet a record breaking 85 yesterday.

I did a re-count this morning of my new ones and have 6 - for sure this time because I took the three youngest out of the nest, then took the nest box outside to clean and put in fresh hay. There are 4 partridge and 2 light ones. I thought maybe two had died and the hen had buried them in the hay, but I didn't find any babies in it. Not sure if all will make it but that is the official head count from this morning. I'll try and get some pictures in the morning.

Thank you all, it is really sad loosing them at only a few days old after waiting for them for 21 days.

I think I will wait on hatching any more that I really WANT until next spring when the weather gets warmer. The mutts and the ones I don't really care about will be the one or two eggs for insistent broodies to set on. That way I won't be so unhappy if I loose one.

I took the babies outside today. Here is Henley In overcast natural light. Do you all see penciling? Is she still possibly a girl? She is 6 weeks old.

I see "penciling" - but I also see a lot of darker red - and some in her head. I have one here that is getting red "dots" on the body - back, chest, lower wings. I am looking for any on upper wings but I think I may be loosing Hope - and gaining Hoppy...

Penciling is better viewed on the wings - and Sonoran just shared a really good link of what it looks like on the primary feathers. Top side dark, bottom side alternates between dark and light colors. Page 42 if you want to go look, follow the link she gave me.
