Partridge Silkies - Nothing else

I have a 6m partridge silkie that is actively laying. Today, I am almost 100% positive she laid two eggs. I do have other chickens, but she was in the coop sitting on them and she was the only bird to enter the coop that I saw while I was in the yard. She also is getting very attached to her eggs, and almost upset when I take them away. I am new to the chicken world. Any idea if the silkies would be able to lay 2 eggs back to back in the same day? Also, I know they are very mothering birds, but how do I not make her so upset when I take the egg from her? Thanks in advance !

Offer her a treat (I use a cucumber slice) and she'll be busy eating it while you gentle snuggle under her to get her egg out from under her. I keep the egg cupped in my hand so she doesn't see it being taken by me. I've had a Leghorn lay 2 eggs in one day but never my Silkies. The Silkie pullets are laying machines though when they start to lay.

Wow, I didn't know there were so many different beautiful varieties of partridge silkies!

This is Precious. His father was a blue silkie and his mother was a partridge. His head is black, his hackles a gorgeous gold blond, his body autumn red and brown with barring on his wings and then he shaded to a smokey slate blue on his back-end and tail. So many colors on one bird, it was incredible.




Here is his mother, Princess, seemingly never without chicks. She was originally named Prince because they said her coloration looked more like a male's? The coloration of a patridge silkie doesn't seem connected to gender.


She has patterning on her wings, but it isn't quite barring like her sons. Her body is brown with an auburn tint and her hackles are reddish.

Usually I let Princess set other chickens eggs, but sometimes I let her hatch out a silkie of her own for all her hard work. Mavis was her other daughter, but she was black. I'm thinking that Mavis may have actually been Cole's egg (my other black silkie).

Could a partridge and a blue silkie have a black chick? (I know blue is related to black, but is partridge?)

Loving all the pictures! Wish I had one handy to share.

I am the proud owner of I partridge silkie rooster. He is in with white, blue and black hens. Anyone know what colors I can expect for chicks? I just hatched out a couple eggs (who knows which hens laid them) and I got a blue and a black. Silkie color genetics are so confusing....I'd love to see another partridge hatch
