Partridge Silkies - Nothing else

SLR is a camera with lenses you can change to suit the situation that uses film. DSLR is the digital version that you can change out lenses on. This is different than point and shoot which are cheaper.

My Cannon has a sports mode with rapid shutter speed. That is a must when taking pictures of chickens. I set it to rapid shot and go. Usually I have the telephoto lens on so that I can be a distance away from the birds so they aren't all suspicious. Posing a bird on something, I usually just have the regular lens on. That way I can reach out and grab the bird if needed. Chicks jump, even if the adults don't.

THX for the explanation of SLR - DSLR - the DSLR is what I want with the rapid shot and zoom feature! Now I know which ads to skip over.
I've only had one chick I've raised and never again LOL! Too needy and follows you EVERYwhere and NEVER stops moving/jumping!

7.5 weeks. 3 boys. 1 girl.

This boy looks so much like his father did. He's also bigger than the others so may turn out to be huge as well. Too bad he has a double claw on a rear toe.

I'm not sure if this is a problem in the multi-toed breeds as a whole, or a random mutation I've had in my flock. It looks a bit different from the extra toes (6 toes) that they sometimes get. The double claw is always on the inner back toe. Usually it's one foot, but I had a hen with it on both.

This chick has 6 toes on one foot.

And here is the extra claw on the cockerel. I ran out and snapped a picture.

I don't believe the odd toes is unusual in Silkies. Over the past 6 yrs of reading up on Silkies and talking with breeders it occurs more often than one would think. It's just that for "show" Silkies these would be DQs or would be discount-priced as pet quality sales. I think a 4-toed or 6-toed Silkie is just as cute as 5-toes. Sometimes I wish my Silkies only had 4 toes -- they walk pigeon-toed when they have 5 toes!

Howdy,

I'm quite new to Bearded Partridge Silkies - they are truly wonderful birds.

I got my hen and cock from a local birder and my first clutch was successfully hatched - 10 out of 13 eggs.

My 2 Partridges gave me different colors - I think. If you could help with identifying what name goes with the colors that would be much appreciated.

Of the 10 chicks 2 are white and the other 8 are unknown (to me) - pictures below.
