- That is just so horrible! Ugh this awful miserable heat! its been rough on my flock I have to go out change water and wet them or their areas down 3X a day...I am surprised the big ol' Brahmas haven't been done in by the heat - they seem to be the worst of the bunch (being the biggest)...

I have been fortunate with my flock in this horrid heat - I have lost 1 out of 40 birds the past few weeks, of course it just had to be one of my favorite pullets from this year's batch.

It FINALLY rained in my area today, after countless close calls and teases of rain the past 3 weeks. urgh. Of course it dropped a BUNCH in a matter of 30 minutes...and out of NO WHERE might I add? it rumbled a bit, didn't look like rain, then 10 minutes later the warning sprinkles...okay nothing special...then BAM the bottom fell out. - Look outside, my d'uccle chicks are standing in 1" of water in their run, the quail are drenched - so I have to go get the baby d'uccles stick them in a box and bring them on the porch, and then pop the quail pen up (its a tractor type set up, floor is hardware cloth, so I pop it up a couple inches off the ground, so they aren't in the water.) then cover it with the other tarp.

THEN my dog gets loose - having realized she wasn't tied out, when the neighbor's hunting dog was loose, she spazzes out, takes off dragging the 25' chain I keep on her when I'm not around to babysit her...THROUGH the invisible fence (which I just replaced the collar on - so I know it worked and zapped her)...so off I run after the crazy dog in the thunderstorm. (I have to catch her - she hates the turkeys next door, and one of the neighbors and I'm terrified she'll bite one of the guys who hangs over there)

so about 4 minutes after she takes off I manage to stomp on the chain (which without it I would NEVER have caught her anytime soon) - and drag her butt back to the yard, am not in the mood to deal with drenched and now muddy wet dog, so tie her out, let the other slightly wet dog (she was in her doghouse - lol smart girl) in the house, and I go stripping clothes through the house with a resounding "PLOP" I may as well have jumped in the lake for as wet as I was. It felt good though!!! But not impressive when its thundering and lightning outside, and I'm paranoid as the devil - lol.

Anyway sorry for my rant - lol.

Some things (coccidiosis being one of many) are always present in the birds, but stress can bring on clinical illness that otherwise would not make itself known. When stress is likely, give lots of extra TLC and attention, medicating as needed. Extra watchfulness can be helpful.

With partridge chicks do the roos usually have darker coloring, with their black stripes? I have 2 chicks that I am hoping are a roo and hen.( We all know how well that always works out!)
These are my first silkies! I am so excited! :)

I didn't know that it was always present, that's kind of scary.

I am so, so sorry to hear of your loss. That is just devastating and I know that all of us here would give you a hug if we could; and even shed a few tears with you. Again - so sorry.

Thank you. I could use all the hugs and prayers I can get...my heart and soul hurts so terribly. I have cried for 2 nights and all day yesterday. The 4 surviving birds are in a bathroom recovering.

If there were anything that I could do to help, believe me, it would be done. I can't even imagine what you must be going through.
