Oh no, I'm so sorry.

That just breaks my heart.. Do you think it was the heat and humidity? Poor little thing. The smallest ones are always my favorites. If there's anything I can do from about 600 miles away, let me know... Just feel the hug.

Cetawin I have brahmas and they are taking it pretty rough, I go out and wet their chests and "under wings" and their favorite shade spots wetted down. - I gave in and put a fan in the silkie coop, debating bringing out another fan for the brahma coop at night. I hate locking them up at night, but I worry about night time predators, especailly since I have seen a possum out once or twice (haven't caught it yet - grrr ) and my neighbors are training hunting dogs and they occassionally stay out over night - I won't take the chance they get eaten...Its such a hard balance.

I feel for you b/c I have lost a few these past few weeks too

Unfortunately there is not much that can be done when mother nature decides to deal us temp's above 90 during the day and at night sometimes its in the 80's!

Here in CT the girlscouts camping outside got heat exhaustion in the middle of the night. To me that is just plain scary!

Animals and humans need those cool night temps to rejuvinate our systems. Without them, it makes it tough to go on.

I pray for all chicken/poultry keepers and their chickens/poultry that they make it through this summer as healthy and strong as nature allows them to be.

You may feel free at any time to speak of the sorrow in your heart. We are friends, bonded by the love of our feathered friends and there is no need to appologize for anything that you speak of in love, not hate or glibness. We truly all feel the heartbreak and are here for you.

The weather that has headed your way seems to be giving us a little break. It's rained a couple of times and now the humidity is down and it back to being our normal non-humid summer. At least for now. So maybe this too shall be moving your way slowly. I can only hope.

It is a hard thing for me to read of the losses everyone is suffering. I am in Portland Oregon and the temperature is 70 degrees. If I could I would have everyone ship me their birds for the summer (chicken summer camp!) so they could live out the summer in cooler weather. Wishing everyone luck during this extreme summer and sending cool and refreshing thoughts your way and hoping the heat breaks soon!!!!
