Partridge Silkies - Nothing else

If only patience was a virtue I possessed... I really only want to know so I can name them properly. Silly? Perhaps. But warranted? I think so! Haha.

Or give them generic names? Pat, Kelly, Lynn, Billie, Kyle, .....

I'm not patient either!

Okay... My guess is just a guess. I would have to say without seeing them in person that because of the coloring on the smaller one it is a cockerel. The larger one is definitely a coin toss, but because of the brightness of coloring I would say that too is a cockerel. But the larger one has a lot of pencilling on the wings.... BUT they can lose that as they mature. We should have a contest to see who ends up being correct. But I am going with 2 cockerels out of different hatches. They can still be both by the same roo and hen, just not from the exact same hatch. I had a hatch of 15 that we all thought were 12 pullets and ended up 8 pullets and 7 cockerels.. Generally the little pullets develop a much larger crest very early on and it's much darker than the rest of its body. If you notice on the smaller one there are like rings of different colors that go around it's whole body. I call that the rainbow effect and it has been very accurate in determining the males from females. The combs on the females stay very small and dark. They could be 2 weeks apart or a whole month and get that variation in size. Do they play fight at all? That too can be somewhat of a determination. Nice little birds though.
Here are some of my girls at about 2 - 3 months old.

Do you see the difference in color between mine and yours?

They really don't do much except cuddle with eachother. The littler one definitely peeps more which made me think s/he was younger than the other. The littler one seems to like to wiggle its way under the other one too. I've only had them for a few days so we'll have to see what develops. Having a contest would be fun though! I'd love to gain a whole bunch of opinions. If I had to vote it would be cockerel for the little guy and pullet for the bigger one. Mostly because I'm crossing my fingers at least one is a pullet.

Well, you can only hope. I have never seen a young pullet with that light of a crest at so young of an age. Isn't it adorable how they cuddle up like that? I just love to watch them.

Not much but by a couple of girls when they get older to go with them... The bigger one looks like he might be a pretty blue partridge, so you could have regular and blue!!!! There's always an upside!!!
