Partridge Silkies - Nothing else

Going by color alone, I'd say Elli is a girl. She looks like she's got a little wattle going on there, and not the fluffiest crest in the world, but the color is definitely girl. Hate to argue, but when have you seen a color like that on a boy? And being beardless it probably makes it appear more masculine, but I'm sticking with girl.

That color on a partridge is definitely a girl for sure no worries I'm bet you'll see an egg when she settles in

As for the other baby I don't know what breed it is. Maybe out of the towel pic with a full body shot and post in the forum what breed is this? I bet you'll get some feedback and help you know what you have. Congrats on your new Parti Hen!!!!

So essentially they have the same standardized colors as we do.

Cuckoo and red are not recognised here, and I don't see splash on the list, and it is recognised here.

The red are only recently recognized in Holland (2011), in Germany (2010). There is an essential difference between both country standaards !
In Germany those reds can have grey underfluff (this intend they have as ground-color "eb" = Asiatic partridge).
In Holland they need to have red underfluff (this intend they have as ground-color "eWh" = Wheaten).

The Splash are indeed not recognized in Holland but became recognized in Italy this year (2011).

The Cuckoo are recognized but some judges make trouble for the skin-color not being pigmented which is THE argument of being a "good" Silkie !
Here is a "genetic conflict" : the barring gene removes pigment from the skin, comb, eyes, legs etc ... while trying to produce the required dark pigment, typical for the Silkie, by the use of "Fm & id+"-genes. The barring gene always wins this genetic battle !

The Paints (Platenbont in Dutch) as you can see in the list are not recognized in Holland but they are in Germany even there is no accuraat coloration discribtion !!

Notice that EU Silkies mostly have different color-backgrounds than the US Silkies.

Thank you so much for the frank imput! I really, really appreciate it! I suspected his back was too long but didn't know for sure if it was a growth rate thing. I definitely what to breed for show quality so I wouldn't be using him!

His comb would not be the isue for me. It is an acceptable comb, although certainly not what I'd prefer. His long back is his worst flaw, and he looks much more like a buff than a partridge. In fact, I see little about him that would make me consider him partridge, although that could be the photos. Partridge should be much browner than he is; breast should be nearly black. Partridge males don't really have much penciling, but he just is not colourful enough to meet the variety, and with his long back he is significantly lacking type.

In EU this comb is not accepted !
Look the form and color of this comb of a lavender cock

In my opinion the coloration lacks the pattern because of the presence of the gene Db/Db = (incomplete) columbian clearnecked.

Indeed the back is way tooo long. Silkies are demanded for short backs.
Look the difference between a short back and a long back

You are correct. Remember these are my first Silkies! I saw the wattles, and sparse crest, and immediatly thought boy, that's what one of mine looks like, but he's blue with gold leakage. I would venture to say if HE is laying, he would be a SHE!

Hope all of you have a MERRY CHRISTMAS!!

Agreed, all girl. She is a beardless - they can get quite big wattles - even the girls. I have some beardless pets and the girls vary from tiny wattles to quite big ones. They also have a more pronounced comb than bearded do as well, and with a small crest, it looks bigger than it actually is.
