Goats do have a heavy worm load when not wormed multiple times a year. High maintenance critters!Hysop...those articles aren't do much about food
It's about bacteria over growth which becomes deadly fast when worms are present. 100% preventable. Read them both a few times.
I'm not saying this is what you goat had but I'd bet money on it.
Do you deworm them regularly?
If not please look into doing so.

This is especially important if they're kept on the same pasture, and not rotated.I have goat dewormer Safeguard on hand, haven't used it. I'll deworm them. We barely got the goats in April or May. First time getting goats.
I was told not to worm them if they don't show signs because then the worms will get resistant to drugs? But I see I was wrong...
I'll lookup and establish a worming schedule.
