@Fishychix — decided to move the cat talk here.

I have sen a cat or two roaming on the property but my dogs take care of scaring them away.

I want this cat to be strictly indoors. If it goes outside it will just turn into an outdoor only cat and defeat the purpose of me wanting him to catch mice in the winter but be a pet all summer long.

I don’t know why he hates cats. Probably all the hair and kitty litter and extra expense and scratching and walking on everything.

I don’t want it sleeping with us so it will just have to spend the night in the living room by itself.

I don’t work so it would have plenty of attention in the summer since I stay stuck indoors due to the summer humidity. But in the winter I go outside more often and enjoy the fresh air.

how old is your mini again?

My kids concept of time is: “long day” “super long day” “a lot of sunny days and moon comes up” “ursday” (as in yesterday) but everything happened yesterday/“ursday” even stuff that happened months ago.
Soooo cute!!!

With redirection you shouldn't have to worry about bad behavior. With my male cat, my avatar, I was at home also so when he would try to scratch where he wasnt supposed to I would pick him up and place him by the scratching post and use his paws to scratch it praising him a LOT. Gently of course. If they ever get on the counter, table, etc. i tell them NO and Get Off. If that fails I “push” them off. I use my arm to put resistance on them and towards the edge until they jump on their own telling them OFF all the while. Once on the floor,
I praise them a LOT for getting OFF the table, etc. It works well in our house. People also say to squirt with water but it seems they just get scared and do it anyway later. As with any animal, the peoples’ attitude makes a big difference.
The litter boxes are something to get used to. Most cats will never miss the box unless: they dont feel well, are stressed, injured, scared, dirty box, dont like the litter.
I really like the show My Cat From Hell with Jackson Galaxy the host. I really wouldn't let hubs watch it :lau :lau:lau

I’ll ask him tomorrow for specifics on why he doesn’t like cats. He just tells me “because I don’t” 😂 🤦‍♀️

We did foster 2 feral kittens before we had kids. One died shortly after I was fostering it. I think it had worms and since I was new to cats and was only fostering it, I didn’t see the signs.

The second cat I brought to live with him since I found out I was pregnant and I read kitty litter is not healthy for pregnant women.

Anyway, that cat did not like him. He let her roam outside and come back in at the end of the day and I guess one day he forgot to let her back in and she never returned.

we were living in two different states at the time because I worked. And so he sees that as a bad experience maybe. The kitty was not nice to him. But that’s cuz we fostered feral kitties not nice kitties.

Yeah, it sounds to me like he just had a bad experience or hasn’t really know very many cats! Totally normal! There’s plenty of people like that! I would try to see if you can foster some nice kitties maybe? 😁 or show him all our cute kitties on here :lau you know, win him over. 🥰 or maybe if you bring a kitten home he will fall in love with it lol it worked for SIL and the dogs :lau

We got two 6 week old kittens from a local vet with the intent to make them barn cats. Spit wild so kept them in a huge dog wire crate in the carport with their bed, litter box and toys wnd food and water bowls. Worked on taming several times every day. Cleaned the litter box every day. They became loving and playful very quickly.

Hubby decided that they would get dirty in the barn or it was too cold or too wet to be outside...lol...so they were moved inside and learned quickly to go to their litter box in the crate during the day.

They had to be trained to stay off tables and counters and learned quickly.
At night they sleep in their dog crate together...still set up with their litter box and dry food...no water at night.
They play and nap together.

They have gained favor with hubby slowly and now even sit in his lap during the evening. He does not want them outside. He doesn't feed them or clean the litter box and laughingly complains when Tom steals the straw out of his Yeti water thermos.

Wild barn cats appeared this summer in the barn. The momma cat and only one kitten are people friendly and have been spayed. Three others are trapped and crated for taming and neutering. The remaining two will soon be trapped as well. There are two more white kitten not pictured.
