Hi, I just received my checks in the mail yesterday morning and this is my first time I’ve ever raise baby chicks, so please excuse me for my ignorance. I’m not sure if this is pasty butt or not can somebody please let me know and if not what it is, and what I can do to help, my baby chick.

That looks like pasty but to me. Clean it off with some warm water and a soft rag. The hard bits will soften with a minute or two of soaking, then you can crush them with your fingers and pick off bits or use a soft toothbrush. check the temp in your brooder, it should be no more than about 95 degrees. I would also add a little bit of sugar to their water to give them a boost. And welcome to backyard chickens :frow

X2 I had a chicken starting to show early signs of it and caught it before it became to bad😅

Thank you so much for your reply. I did get a warm rag wet two different times yesterday and tried to get it off gently and although it came a little bit cleaner, I just could not get it completely clean. Yes.
You still

Thank you so much for your quick reply. I did exactly what you said to do prior to me messaging this forum two times and then again this morning, I had also given them a little sugar water as soon as I got them yesterday morning, and I also put vitamins and electrolytes in their water. Unfortunately when I got home from work today the poor chick was dead. I feel like such a failure and I’m so sad about this. 🥺

Please don’t feel like a failure, we have all been in this position, if only chickens could talk…you have done your absolute best, and that is all you can do. Big hugs :hugs so sorry for your loss.
