I brought home a one week Olive Egger chick (among others) who had a huge nugget of dried poop on her butt. I'm talking size of a marble 🤦
I ran it under warm water and was able to get it off. Put castor oil around the vent as that's all I had, to prevent sticking. The next few days I continued to clean her behind and it slowly improved. I had been using ACV in the flocks water as well. Today I picked her up and her vent was scabbed shut! I used warm water on her again and a few came off. Applied some neosporin as that's all I have. Any other advice? Im afraid it will scab shut again, she'll get backed up and die. pic attached after so cleaned it up today and applied neosporin. First time chicken owner so I appreciate any and all advice!

I've eliminated the pasted vent issue since I discovered and started using a probiotic powder in chicks first water. There are others but I use a product called Gro2Max. It is formulated specifically for chickens with both beneficial bacteria and yeast species.
Once their gut biome is balanced, it doesn't happen again.
