Pasty Butt Fixed?

Just a note,

If you're using additives to their water be sure to offer plain water too. It's possible to OD on electrolytes, etc. (Imagine having nothing to drink but a Gatorade flavor you don't like).

IMO, the bigger the brooder the better. Mine is almost ridiculous -- 4x8 (with half of it blocked off for the first week), and they use all of it as soon as I give them access. :)
4x8 is impressive!

I never have more than a handful of chicks. My largest batch to date is on its way this morning, and there are only 6. They'd get lost in a 4x8 brooder! But I have brooder envy now! Mine's only 2x4!

My hatch of 7 is the least I've gotten.

When purchasing them I deliberately bought twice as many as I wanted, chose the ones I liked best, and sold the others.

Okay so I rinsed the chick off as there was a bit more poop buildup today even though the chick was still pooping. I also added Vaseline with a Q-Tip.

However, I see something sticking out where the poop was stuck below their valve (I believe that’s what it called). Looks like maybe the umbilical cord? But shouldn’t that be off by now? Could it be a hernia?

I will try to get a picture tomorrow!

Okay found a similar picture online. Looks like mine definitely has its cord still!?! Should I cut it?

If you suspect that's the umbilical, I'd leave it alone.

I have no idea how people tell all the chicks apart! I do see they definitely look all slightly different just so hard to remember whose who for me still!

You can mark them with a dot of food dye for ID purposes, or small colored zip ties around the leg, but if using something like zip ties you'll need to check them constantly to make sure they're not tight or cutting into the skin.

I have 3 bra's all named Fern. Problem solved!

Ooo never thought about cutting it off, great idea! I will get her all cleaned up today if need be. I kind of liked having a little left so I know who it was to monitor as well. Although if I would know if it came back too.

Vaseline is a really good suggestion.

A good rinse under the tap, blow dry with my hair dryer and some Vaseline with a qtip and that was the end of it. Never returned and I have no idea what chick it was anymore for sure. But thank you all for the help and tips! All 10 still going strong!
