Pasty butt? Help!

I think one of my baby chicks has died from pasty butt..I noticed some of their little butts clogged up afterwards..how can I help/fix?

I washed them off..it’s kind of hardened on there. Is there something I can give them? They seem like they’re breathing shallow..I’m worried
Can you post some photos of your brooder setup, the chicks and their little bums?
What are you feeding them?
How old are they?
What temp is your brooder?

I'm very sorry to hear you lost a chick:(

If the poop has hardened on the vent (butt), then you need to soak the rear end in a little warm water. You may need to work on getting it loose very gently. Some people apply a little vaseline or coconut oil to help soften the poop, but you need to try to get it off.
Once you get the poop cleaned off, apply a little coconut oil or vaseline to the vent to help keep the poop from sticking so much.

Pasty butt can be from too hot/cold and dehydration. Are your chicks drinking? You can also offer them wet chick starter to help as well.

Look forward to your photos and more information.

They’re eating manapro medicated chick starter. They are 1-2 days off from being a week old. Temp is around 95 in there..just went and checked on the one that was pretty bad..she was pooping when I walked up, yay! Fell straight on the bedding .
