Hi :frow
Got a new flock of seven buff orpington chicks today! It’s been very smooth. They’re sleeping right now, and I’m not completely sure if this is pasty butt or not. They’re only a day old and have been handled roughly, so I’m trying to handle them as less as possible. Can you guys take look at this? Thanks for the help!

To be sure, you should look closely at the vent. If the pasty is really close to the vent, that’s when it can block it and cause serious issues.
Regardless, you should use a warm, damp cloth to clean it off.
Why were they handled roughly? Was it just transport?

I‘ve had good luck washing with warm water and drying with a towel, gently. Then make sure there is fresh water and I withhold food overnight. I think the light from the brooder lamp makes it confusing between night and day and they just eat constantly.

We picked up the chicks at a local poultry store and the owners were handling the chicks roughly :(
We gently cleaned up the vent and it’s clear now!
