Pasty Butt ??

I recently hatched out chicks and I just want to make sure these chicks have pasty butt before I try to help them.

How? I have one also and have been applying a warm cloth couple times a day. It's hard as a rock! Help!

If it's that bad the chick likely doesn't have long. You might need to soak that one in warm water while gently breaking it up. Then blow dry carefully.

Also this most often is from too hot or too cold. Check them temp under the heat and away from the heat. Should be room temp for most of the brooder.

Thanks, I soaked it but it looks much worse. I just got the from TS yesterday never thought of checking them for this

Don't stop until it's gone. You'll need to be breaking it while the chick is in the water with your hand. That is likely a full blockage. It'll kill them quick

I run the chicks bum under warm water and gently break it up. You need to be patient with it and be sure not to pull at it. I dab the clean bum with a paper towel after (no rubbing, just dabbing) and if it is still wet, I blow dry.
