I can't wait to candle his eggs! I got 30 from him last week.

Oh and can I get any tips on hatching these poult eggs? Is there anything special that needs to be done? I'm SO glad they're growing so beautifully! I had 8 from Reese two were cracked, one cold and one looked like it hit the ground or beating box when it was laid. But nothing from the other six. I'm guessing it was just too cold during transit. But I just want to make sure these babies hatch. I'm totally keeping hens from them. My newest Tom that just came out of quarantine is totally SQ. he's flipping gorgeous! Actually I'm not pastiche he's SQ but he's definitely :drool

I am almost as excited for your turks as I am for mine. I can't wait to see how they do. For turkey's the common suggestion from the research I have done is a little higher humidity and a little lower temp in the hatcher. I put them in starting around 80% humidity so I don't have to add water and about 98.5 temperature. I got this from a number of university studies on turkey hatching, but I am sure other people have ideas too. The research is really confusing, but the higher humdity helps them pip the thicker eggs and the lower temp keeps the bacteria from the elevated humidity. So, that's the advice I usually go with. I do also hatch them with my chicken eggs and the the chicks don't seem much worse for the wear.

The really tough time with the poults is the first week. They are much more sensitive to temperature in the brooder so I make sure I keep it at least 95 and keep a sharp eye on the water so they don't get wet. They also seem to have problems understanding the whole eating and drinking thing. It's weird....but they seem a little dense about this survival thing. I put a little sugar in the water and add marbles. They seem to like the marbles and get the water along with it. Sometimes I have to do the whole eye dropper thing for a day or two. I also add hard boiled egg to their food. They can't seem to resist it for anything and it helps them get the whole point of eating more quickly. I have been really lucky with this and haven't lost any poults yet out of about 30.....

He's very friendly! She handled him a great deal. I can basically walk up and he's a tiny touch wary but when I pet him he sort of nuzzles my arm and will let me pick him up though that's not happening much because he ways close to 50lbs easy
