Pea Eggs Scheduled to Hatch?

You're going to so spoil that one baby aren't you? :p That's the good thing about incubating, you can ALWAYS try again, and learn from your previous attempts. Too bad the pea season is only a few short months.
I'm sure trying not to as you can see. This retirement ain't all bad, after all.

From everything I'm reading, it sounds like shipped peacock eggs are not worth the money....maybe 30% hatch rate at best? Has anyone had better?

So if you buy 4 at $50 then you, if lucky, paid $50 for one peachick. I have never attempted to incubate shipped eggs but I did incubate some from a guy "locally". He wouldn't let me leave with them without first bubble wrapping them and tightly putting them in a box. He said even if you have the best suspension in your car, all that shaking on the road destroys them. I ended up having 4 of the 8 even develop and only 3 of those hatched healthy chicks. I would not waste my money on shipped eggs unless they were priced very cheaply. I see the ads on Ebay $40+ for TWO eggs, I'd rather play the lottery with that kind of money.

Buying shipped eggs is a gamble. I buy shipped eggs and sell them. I've had anywhere from 0-100% hatch rates. Distance does not seem to matter. I live in northern WI. My best hatches have come from eggs I purchased from Florida and Texas. Bought eggs from Michigan a couple of times--0 hatched. All depends on how they are packaged and how the post office handles them. I know the risks when I buy them but I'm willing to take that chance. There is no guarantee on eggs even if they come from your own flock of birds.

I have great success with hatch all kinds of eggs but i would never buy eggs that had to be shipped, to may things to go wrong, like x-rays and stuff, i would not like the letdown all these folks post about when trying to get them to develop

I think it also has to do in a large part with the honesty of the seller. There are some out there looking to make a quick buck...I would feel more comfortable buying from someone here that really knows their birds well and knows how to pack eggs. I shipped chicken eggs from here to CA and ALL of them developed. I know peacock eggs are more fragile, but if you had a 0% hatch rate and you did everything right, either something major happened during shipment or the seller is not being honest with you.

I posted a pic of 4 chicks on a different thread that I hatched last year. The bird on the left is one of the chicks in that photo. The purple bird on the right came from eggs I bought from Florida. If I hadn't purchased shipped eggs, I wouldn't have these beautiful birds.

They are BEAUTIFUL.

How much did you pay for him...after cost and shipping? I have never seen a purple pied in FL, but I think those that have them live in N. FL and I am a good 5 hrs. from there depending on where it is. There is a local lady trying to sell a cameo pied peachick for $75! I am almost ready to email her and ask her if she's out of her mind. To be honest, there are not a lot of colored peafowl in FL, they are mostly Indian Blue, that's why I'm so happy to get my hands on these silver pied chicks I hatched.

I paid $32 + $ 15 for shipping for 4 eggs. 100% hatch. 2 Cameo silver pied, 1 blackshoulder silver pied and 1 white-eyed.
