Pea Gravel

Is pea gravel a suitable base for chickens to free range in? I was thinking of making the entire (very small) backyard pea gravel.
The run will be mulch or bark, but when they are out are they ok in pea gravel?

With pea gravel you would be able to spray the garden hose and wash away the poops every day in the summer! For me that would be a huge plus to go ahead and do it.
