I had a peachick hatch last Sat. She had a tough time hatching and when she finally did she has a distended abdomen and some extra baggage from her navel. She is eating and drinking, not super active. I've been treating with antibiotic ointment (without pain relief) several times a day. Making sure she has electrolytes in her water and also Vet RX. It seems like it has reduced some. From what I've read on here it could be a yolk issue or mushy chick? Neither of which I'm familiar with if that's the case. She has spunk and a will to keep going. What else should I be doing? Thank you for any help and advice.

Looks like a mushy chick to me and should absorb the yolk in a couple of days. I don't see the 'excess baggage' hanging off the navel you are referring to.

Thank you for your response! I'll send a picture of it when I get back home, it's a protrusion from her navel.

I have found if it is more than a small marble in size the chick has very little chance and will die within a couple of days. Giving a drop of Baytril a couple of times per day will help. Last year I had a rash of umbilical cords hot detaching and pulling the insides of the chick out. I have found some research that indicates that it could be a deficiency of Iodine keeping the navel from closing. I now apply triple ointment to every navel that appears to not be closed and clean.
