Peachicks

Hello! I’m Emily, I’m new to Peafowl and BYC but I have been searching everywhere for answers and haven’t had any luck. I bought 4 peachicks two days ago, they’re all really healthy. Whenever I go to feed them they act like they’re choking on the game bird crumble I’ve purchaced. I’ve been having to feed them little bits at a time by hand so they don’t choke. I tested a theroy yesterday which was putting crumble in the water and them eat it out of there. It worked and they didn’t choke but I’m curious as to if there is a better way to feed them or if anybody else has these problems.

Welcome to BYC! Are the crumbles large? If so, try crushing them a little and see if that helps.

No, they’re the same size or smaller than sprinkles really. Do you think the water method is safe?

I give some of mine a mash every day. Just gotta watch it in the warmer weather because it goes rancid pretty quick.

Thank you! I fed them with the water method, basically soaking the crumbles and they did great! When I’m not down there to watch them feed it stays in the barn fridge.

Put one part hard-boiled egg and three parts crumbles in a Handi Chopper and pulverize. They love it.
