Hi folks. I'm sure this has been asked and answered, but couldn't find it. I have kept my peacocks in the same run as the chickens and ducks for about a year now. This summer I let the peacocks out and they have been living around the front porch or back porch, perching on the wood stacks at night. Will they be ok in the wintertime or should I attempt to round them up and put them back in the run/coop with the rest chickies and ducks? If left outside is there something I can built and put on the porch to keep them warmer?

We live in the Lancaster PA area.

Thanks

Winter in Alaska .... in California or Florida .... it's not the same thing ... I think! ... where do these peacocks live ...?

If you have IB's the temperature won't really be an issue, but they don't like to be in the wind. If you have Spauldings/green blood they don't tolerate the cold as well. So sleeping in the trees might be fine in the summer but without leaves to keep the wind off they may not like it as much.

Bigger issue is predators. When the seasons change so do their food supplies. Your birds may not have been worth the effort in summer but now that the predators need more energy for the cold and all the little critters are holed up for the winter, they may come for your birds. Also remember migration - just because you don't have hawks or something in the summer they may pass through in the fall and spring.

As Dany says, more info about your location would help. I keep all of our birds safe year around, so winter weather really doesn't change their lives much.
