Peacock or Peahen??

That's what the breeder said! But a woman on a fb group said the black shoulder already has more dark color on wings than a female chick. But I have only had them a week and I have already noticed less barring and color on wings however, I see lots of barring on the back above the tail on both. Not on where the saddle is but lower. And is it possible that the black shoulder is gonna be white on head and all of neck where it has no color at all now? Or does neck color show up later on males and not at all on hens?

This little one is about 8 weeks old and turned out to be a hen.

And, yes, male BS will have a white head for quite awhile this one is at least 7 or 8 months old.

Where did I get the idea that bs are totally easy to sex. At birth I thought! Now I see these pics and I went to that website with the chick comparison pics and now I realize I can't even see what yall are seeing to sex them. But I bet he's a boy! I mean I have seen babies display but I have never seen anything like this one. He is so little! And when he saw my dog come into the pea house behind me he actually leaped through the air like a ninja and his tail actually made a popping noise like a fan snapping open. He reminded me of one of those flying lizards you see on nat geo channel. If it's a girl she is gonna be a real witch!

My BS boy acted very male early on. Of course the girls will also fan, but seems the boys do it so much more.

The one that turned out to be a hen for instance... it has "gold laced feathers" on saddle which is sposed to be male; last feather on wings is a bright brown, and it's got some really dark feathers on shoulder. At what age can you know for sure.

I think they are usually around 10-12 weeks when I know for sure what sex they are. Remember that Black Shoulder is a "pattern" not a "color", we can have India Blue Black Shoulder or Purple Black Shoulder, or Cameo Black Shoulder, this means we cannot reliably use color as a way to sex them, those gold laced feathers will not appear on all Black Shoulder hens. I use the Pattern of those feathers on the back, males will develop a Pattern that you can pick out with a bit of practice. Here is the same little hen at about 12 weeks, she is on the left and on the right is a male Bronze Black Shoulder. See if you can see the difference in the pattern on the back. Almost looks like a double laced pattern on a chicken, this tells me male as the hens never get this pattern.

Here he is a little closer

Ok here are newest pics. Peacock or peahen.
