PEACOCKS DROPPING TAIL FEATHERS

My Bronze is dropping his train. He is next door to the one pictured above. None of my other boys are dropping yet.
I must say that the purple cock seems to have the best train of all my boys as far as having it since last fall and keeping it all season now. His hen is sitting on 2 eggs in their pen.

Thank you. I think he is pretty awesome, too! I have collected a few eggs from this pen since he dropped his train and think I am seeing some growth in the eggs. Still early in incubation yet but I sure hope so!
Oh wow, hope they hatch! My dream is to breed a pied as good as yours! Have you got any pics of him displaying?

This is my other pied boy, much younger but still a pretty fella. His name is Velocity and his girl is Tempo.

Here are the photos of Zazous (named after one of my favorite pea people here on BYC)! He sure looks better with a train than without!

Very nice! Pretty birdAmy, I didnt get any babies this year cause of my own screw up with a bator in the last week . But at least I did find out my older boy is fertile before he dropped his train. He will have a mate of his own kind hopefully before next year.

I'm confused now...when a male drops his feathers, does it mean he's NOT fertile?? Pete and Penelope hatched out 3 chicks a couple months back and now he's lost all his tail feathers. I was hoping for another hatch yet this year...Not Possible?? What gives?

I am not so sure they are not fertile but without the ability to display for his lady she may not accept him if he no longer courts her with that display and ritual.
I have heard that some still breed without the train but I have no idea if the eggs are fertile or if she will even lay more.
My bird had lost most of his train and the hen laid 3 more eggs and I set those. They are fertile but I have no idea if he bred her after he lost his train or if she was still fertile, like chickens are for weeks after their mate is not with them.

Thanks, I'll remain hopeful

I've seen him mate with her before he got his train so maybe he'll do it again. Of course, he was less than graceful back in those days

My silver pied Romeo is dropping; D'artagnan - my progressive bronze white -eyed - whatever he is this year - - not yet - but the girls have not laid in 2 weeks now so I think it's over for this year.
